Solar Thermal installation for Majestic Wines Canterbury

One of our most recent solar thermal installations was for the majestic wines group at there brand new state of the art retail premises in Canterbury, Kent.

The project designed by Leeds based architects Ormerod  Design and built by Carter Construction involved implementing the latest low carbon building materials and Salop Energy were  privileged to be awarded the contract for supplying and installing the solar hot water system.

Majestic Wines staff will now enjoy endless amounts of free hot water for many years to come and with Salop Energy being an MCS accredited contractor our client will also benefit from the impending renewable heat incentive tariff due to be launched in April 2012.

This will generate an income for 20 years on the proposed tariff, And based on figures muted around recently the income could well cover nearly all auxiliary water heating costs during the winter months when the system requires a boost, During the months of march right through to October the solar hot water system will produce enough hot water harnessing only energy from the sun.

Phase 1 of the contract in June 2010 was to fix the solar panels to the kingspan seamless metal roof. Extra care was required along with a bespoke fixing kit, as our client required the roof not be penetrated in any way, as this invalidate their warranty on the roofing structure.

After raising concerns with the architect on how best to conceal the solar flex pipes running into the building from the collectors on the roof, Salop Energy proposed the installation of a false soil stack, not only would this hide the solar flex pipe but it would also protect them from the elements and being potentially damaged. The end result was a delighted architect and a pleasing aesthetic appearance with no unsightly pipework detracting from the look of the building.

Neatly tucked away in the corner of the plant room is the Vaillant 200 litre thermal store, solar pumping station and solar controller. A 4" diamond core drill was used to bring through the solar flex pipework from the outside of the building to the pump station capping a very neat well planned trouble free installation.
